Sustainability from Our Home to Yours

How We Embrace Recycling to Help Care for the Planet

At Hippie’s Homemade Candles, creating beautiful, natural products is only part of the story. Just as important to us is how we create them—with respect for the Earth, a love for simplicity, and a deep commitment to sustainability. 🌍

Recycling and reusing are part of our daily rhythm, both in our candle-making studio and in our home. It’s our small way of showing love to the planet we all share.

Here’s how we keep it eco-friendly, one mindful choice at a time:

♻️ Recycled Labels with a Handmade Touch

Every label on our candle jars is printed on recycled paper, adding to the handmade charm you know and love. It’s a small detail that reflects a bigger value—choosing materials that are kind to the Earth without sacrificing beauty.

🫙 Mason Jars that Live On

Our signature mason jars aren’t just adorable—they’re meant to be reused. Once your candle has burned its last flicker, the jar becomes the perfect storage solution for:

  • Herbs and spices

  • Cotton rounds or Q-tips

  • Bath salts

  • Dry pantry goods

  • Homemade cleaning sprays

  • Even your morning smoothie or iced coffee!

It’s part of the reason we love the humble mason jar—it’s simple, practical, and full of second-life possibilities.

🔥 How to Remove Leftover Wax from Your Jar

Want to reuse your candle jar but not sure how to clean out the wax? Here's our favorite gentle method:

  1. Place your finished jar in the freezer for a few hours.

  2. Use a spoon or butter knife to pop out the leftover wax (it should crack and lift right out).

  3. Wash the jar with warm soapy water and a little baking soda to remove any residue.

  4. Wipe dry—and it’s ready for its next purpose!

Tip: You can also save leftover wax bits for a wax warmer or to mix and melt into new custom candles at home.

📦 Recycled Shipping Materials

When you order from us online, your package will likely include recycled bubble wrap and packing peanuts that we’ve saved and reused from previous shipments. We also recycle cardboard boxes and do our best to minimize waste in every step of the process.

Not only does this help reduce the need for new materials, but it also keeps perfectly usable items out of landfills.

🌿 Our Home: A Mini Eco-Haven

Living close to nature inspires the way we live every day. In our home:

  • We use what we grow in the garden—like citrus, rosemary, and lavender—to make natural, vinegar-based cleaning sprays.

  • We store dry goods, herbs, and homemade cleaners in—you guessed it—mason jars.

  • Even our drinking glasses are repurposed jars. They’ve become a staple in our kitchen and a reminder that simple can be beautiful.

🧼 Try Our Natural All-Purpose Cleaning Spray

Want to make your own natural cleaner at home? Here’s the recipe we use:

Garden Citrus + Herb Cleaning Spray

  • 1 cup white vinegar

  • 1 cup distilled water

  • Peels from 1-2 lemons or oranges

  • A few sprigs of rosemary or lavender (optional)

  • 10-15 drops of essential oils (we love lemon, tea tree, or lavender)

Soak the peels and herbs in vinegar for 1-2 weeks, then strain and mix with water and essential oils in a spray bottle. Shake gently before each use. Perfect for countertops, sinks, and more!

🌱 Why It Matters

We know we can’t change the world overnight—but we can be intentional about how we live and what we create. Each candle, label, and package from Hippie’s Homemade Candles reflects our belief that small, conscious choices add up to something powerful.

When you support a small business like ours, you’re not just buying a candle—you’re choosing sustainability, love, and a return to the things that truly matter.
