🌿 Meet the Maker

Hi, I’m Krista — the heart and hands behind Hippie’s Homemade Candles.

Hippie’s Homemade Candles began over 13 years ago, not as a big business idea, but as a quiet, personal solution.

At the time, I was working as a licensed massage therapist, deeply immersed in wellness, healing, and helping others feel better in their bodies. Ironically, many of the candles commonly used for relaxation were doing the opposite for me. Synthetic fragrances triggered my asthma, headaches, and sensitivities, making it difficult to enjoy the very environments meant to be calming.

So I started researching. Reading labels. Learning about waxes, wicks, and oils. And eventually, I began pouring my own candles at home — first for myself, then for my massage room.

What I noticed right away was how different they felt.

Why I Make Candles This Way

From the very beginning, my intention has been simple:
create candles that feel good to live with.

I hand-pour every candle using:

  • Soy wax for a cleaner, slower burn

  • Botanical and essential oil blends chosen with balance in mind

  • Cotton wicks

  • Small-batch methods that allow for care and consistency

Because I’m sensitive to scent myself, I’m mindful of how fragrances show up in a space. My candles are meant to be comforting and present ~ never overpowering.

They’re made for real homes. For winding down. For quiet mornings, cozy evenings, meaningful conversations, and everyday rituals.

The Story Behind the Name

“Hippie” was my older brother’s nickname for me ~ a name filled with love, humor, and our shared appreciation for nature and authenticity.

After his long battle with cancer and his passing, that nickname took on deeper meaning. Naming this business Hippie’s Homemade Candles became a way to honor him and carry his spirit forward ~ rooted in heart, resilience, and connection.

Many of my candle scents are inspired by places I’ve traveled, moments that shaped me, people I’ve loved, and seasons of healing. Every candle carries a story — sometimes spoken, sometimes simply felt.

More Than Candles

Over the years, Hippie’s Homemade Candles has grown into a full line of natural home fragrance, including reed diffusers, room sprays, and wax melts ~ all created with the same philosophy of intention and care.

My background in massage therapy and holistic wellness continues to guide my work. I’ve seen firsthand how scent affects the nervous system, mood, and sense of safety in our spaces. I believe our homes should support us ~ not overwhelm us.

This business has also grown alongside my life ~ through becoming a mother, navigating loss, rebuilding, and choosing a slower, more intentional way of living.

A Small Business with Deep Roots

For more than a decade, I’ve poured candles for:

  • Quiet evenings

  • Meaningful gifts

  • Celebrations and milestones

  • Times of grief and healing

  • And everyday comfort

This work has allowed me to stay close to my family, work with my hands, and connect with customers on a deeply human level. I’m endlessly grateful for the community that has grown around this business and for everyone who has welcomed my candles into their homes.
