Recycling Your Containers!
As most of you know, if you bring back your used Hippie Candles, you will receive a discount on your purchase. (At Markets Only)
I love seeing them come back to me after they have been enjoyed. They are like my babies coming back home after being put out into the world! But I thought I would share how I get them cleaned out just in case you wanted to clean them out yourself! :) Not that I mind doing it for you, I actually enjoy it as part of our daily/ weekly routine...
STEP 1- GET THE LABELS OFF
I like to put a liberal amount of any kind of oil you have laying around on the label to let it soak for a few hours/ overnight. (we have used baby oil, coconut, olive, vegetable and canola and they all work fine) You just pour some onto a paper towel and rub it liberally on each label and let it soak and they should peel right off.
STEP 2- HEAT UP REMAINING WAX IN JAR
Once I've peeled off all the labels, I put the jars onto a baking sheet and pop them in the oven on warm just enough to melt them down. About 15 minutes is all it takes.
STEP 3- DUMP OUT THE OLD WAX
( IMPORTANT- DO NOT POUR THE WAX DOWN THE SINK... ITS GOES IN THE TRASH)
I have an old grill grate the I use on top of my trash can so I can multitask. But you can just pour it right into the bag and it shouldn't hurt it.
STEP 4- FILL UP THE SINK...
Hot soapy water will help get everything off along with a magic eraser sponge...
Once they are all clean you let the water cool so the left over wax will harden again and you can just scoop it out of the sink and throw it away. We use an old strainer/sifter... Then you can let the water out while running the faucet on hot for a second to keep your pipes clean. I have been doing it this way for years and have had no problems...
Hope this helps and please keep recycling!
